Welcome to my blog, Mafia Book Reviews, and thanks for checking me out. While I knew for years what the Mafia was and saw all the classic movies, I never really paid attention to it or had much of an interest in it. That’s despite growing up in one of the most ‘Ndrangheta infested neighbourhoods in Toronto where murders and arson was a known occurrence. Bored on YouTube one day I saw a BuzzFeed video (I know ☹) being recommended to me featuring the infamous Michael Franzese as he was making his rounds on the internet before launching his own Channel. Michael is a charismatic guy and I was instantly hooked on his content and watched all his videos, podcasts and interviews religiously. But soon enough I was noticing a distinct lack of depth in his content as he would gloss over details and refuse to open up regarding things outside of his Gas Tax Scheme. Then he started interviewing random actors and fighters and I really got fed up. So I figured I would cut to the chase and go straight to the source material, his books. I haven’t read a book in years, but here I was spending a dozen or so dollars on Kobo to read his updated biography Blood Covenant. After finishing it in a day and a half I had so many conflicting thoughts and feeling swirling inside my mind I wrote it all down. In doing so I inadvertently wrote a review for the book and so I decided to post it on R/Mafia. Up until that point, I was mostly a silent reader. To my surprise, Reddit user u/BDub621 liked what I wrote and encouraged me to read more books and do these posts. I did do that and that’s the genesis of this website. My activity on Reddit has lacked due to how busy I was with my job, but things should be clearer now, and I want to publish with a minimum frequency of one quality post a week. If anyone ever reads this, thanks for making it this far, and I hope you enjoy it (or let me know how I can improve)!
